Its visual style was applauded by a great French filmmaker named Bertrand Tavernier who has long been one of René Féret's admirers.

Rue des Pignons was a French-Canadian TV series which ran from 1966 to 1977. Radio-Canada has reportedly lost most of the episodes of the series, only managing to trace about 35 of the 427 episodes from 1966 to 1977. The action takes place in Paris in 1959, with a flashback. A teenager in search of a mother he has never known enters manhood and discovers love.

A young boy is hired as a lift attendant in a grand hotel when his mother dies. To fulfill his dream, he takes part in a competition organized by the manager, and wins 1st prize: a two-day stay in one of the princely suites. He wants to share the experience with his young girlfriend, the florist, but discovers that she has betrayed him and returns to her elevator.

But Marot murdered Madeleine's mother many years ago and committed suicide immediately after.
